Congregational Prayer for the Summer

Posted by on Jul 21, 2015 in Uncategorized | No Comments

God, the source of all life. Creator of new beginnings and anchor in difficult times. We pray to you this morning in the mercy of your love.

We give thanks for our many blessings. For this house of worship, for the friends and family that we love, for the joy of summer and warm sun shining on us, for holidays and camps, traveling, and beaches. We give thanks to you, loving God, for this day and this season.

We also ask for your wisdom in our daily lives. Guide our footsteps. Speak to us in the still small voice of your Spirit. Provide us with spiritual food for the journey this week. Help us be transformed by the renewing of your spirit.

We pray for the concerns that are on our hearts and minds.

For the hungry and homeless we pray for your provision.

For the ones who courageously speak up and act out for ethical accountability we pray for your strength.

For the peacemakers and visionaries we pray for your light.

For people elected to be responsible to serving people we pray for your moral courage.

We pray for the strength to do the right thing, the humility to gain knowledge from others, and the joy to sustain us.

Holy Spirit, like a cool breeze on a warm summer day, blow your Spirit in our lives. We confess our dependence on you, God, and we ask for forgiveness when our walk and talk do not align. Restore to us joy so that we may sing with our life and sing with our voices.

In this moment of quiet please receive our personal prayers.

(Silence)

Together we pray the prayer that Jesus taught us:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
